Researchers and educators progressively acknowledge literacy as plural and varied in nature, a process which encompasses the production and understanding of multiple forms of representation, deeply rooted in the social contexts and practices of a given society. The technologies of the digital society offer different potentials for learning. E-books are one of such new technologies. This article presents an exploratory study on the use of e-textbooks in a primary education classroom. It examines student’s meaning making practices and the perceptions that teachers and students have towards their engagement in learning activities in this context. In the analysis of the data generated, the classroom is considered as a multimodal learning space, where virtual, physical and cognitive environments overlap. Students negotiate meaning across multiple contexts and reflect upon it. Our results show that however e-textbooks favour a communicative active style of learning, there still are real challenges to be overcome by e-textbook editorials so that it does not become the next forgotten fad.

The technology has done tremendous things on our society today particularly in the field of education. In medieval times, books were rare and only an elite few had access to educational opportunities. Today, massive amounts of books, audio, images, and videos, are available at one’s fingertips, the opportunities for formal learning are available online worldwide, access to learning opportunities today is unprecedented in scope thanks to technology, So, It has to be understood that the schooling system has been positively impacted as both students and teachers are now able to perform their task efficiently (Collins, 2013). The using technology is becoming a universal medium and source for most of the information that flows through eyes, will be facilitate the process of education on widely and availability of computers in schools these days has enabled students and teachers have unlimited access to many categories of education. The advances in the technology are very helpful in distance learning and transforming the way people are educated.
I think the technology has helped a lot in raising the understanding level of students and improving education in many ways, it is good tool in building interest in studies as a result students' attendance is increased in institutions which availing technology education. "Technology can give teachers and students great resources, new opportunities for learning, ways to collaborate and create, and save money. Technology is a very powerful tool for education" (David Andrade, 2009). The technology can improve student achievement and it is improving education in many ways, of which active Learning Interactive technologies supply stimulating environments that encourage student involvement in the learning process, there are many studies that support the advantages of using multimedia to help students construct knowledge and work cooperatively. Interactive technologies aid teachers with creating new learning environments.
Let’s look at assistive education technology and how that can the improve the functional capabilities of a child with a disability. Online learning, can offer disabled students some additional perks, most notably the convenience and flexibility to accommodate individual needs and the people separated by distance and time and often do not include consideration of the needs of people with disabilities. In fact, the design of many distance learning courses erects barriers to the full participation of students and instructors with some types of disabilities.

PLEs, Web 2.0 & Future of Higher Education
One of several presentations at a school of arts and sciences retreat for Salem State College, January 2009, to stimulate thought on the future of higher education in 10 years. I chose to focus on PLEs (Personal Learning Environments) as a concept that encompasses several key behaviors and technologies widely adopted by our incoming students.

Synchronous learning uses technology like video conferencing to allow real-time interaction between students and teachers, as opposed to traditional asynchronous online learning which is not in real-time. The rise of computers and the internet has modernized classrooms and led to more students taking online or blended courses, with teachers now demanding interactive online classrooms to engage students.

A Critical Study Of Effectiveness Of Online Learning On Students Achievement

Technology and Education
The technology has done tremendous things on our society today particularly in the field of education. In medieval times, books were rare and only an elite few had access to educational opportunities. Today, massive amounts of books, audio, images, and videos, are available at one’s fingertips, the opportunities for formal learning are available online worldwide, access to learning opportunities today is unprecedented in scope thanks to technology, So, It has to be understood that the schooling system has been positively impacted as both students and teachers are now able to perform their task efficiently (Collins, 2013). The using technology is becoming a universal medium and source for most of the information that flows through eyes, will be facilitate the process of education on widely and availability of computers in schools these days has enabled students and teachers have unlimited access to many categories of education. The advances in the technology are very helpful in distance learning and transforming the way people are educated.
I think the technology has helped a lot in raising the understanding level of students and improving education in many ways, it is good tool in building interest in studies as a result students' attendance is increased in institutions which availing technology education. "Technology can give teachers and students great resources, new opportunities for learning, ways to collaborate and create, and save money. Technology is a very powerful tool for education" (David Andrade, 2009). The technology can improve student achievement and it is improving education in many ways, of which active Learning Interactive technologies supply stimulating environments that encourage student involvement in the learning process, there are many studies that support the advantages of using multimedia to help students construct knowledge and work cooperatively. Interactive technologies aid teachers with creating new learning environments.
Let’s look at assistive education technology and how that can the improve the functional capabilities of a child with a disability. Online learning, can offer disabled students some additional perks, most notably the convenience and flexibility to accommodate individual needs and the people separated by distance and time and often do not include consideration of the needs of people with disabilities. In fact, the design of many distance learning courses erects barriers to the full participation of students and instructors with some types of disabilities.
Introduction of any new tool into academia is a matter of great interest among educators, this is particularly evident when the tool is technology and the domain of academia. Educational technology bridging the technological divide

The Australian Teacher Librarian Network aims to make a difference, and supports school library staff in Australia and around the world to build professional networks and personal learning connections, offering an open and free exchange of ideas, strategies and resources to build collegiality. The ubiquity with regard to technology and availability of social media offered an unorthodox avenue to impart education. Concerning language teaching and learning, the meticulous use of such online platforms has been overtly observed. They become didactic concerning the issue that typical classrooms often exert gaps in terms of students’ learning. 10 Minute School, a platform to infuse language teaching and learning through Facebook live classes, undertakes the responsibility to bridge the gaps yielded from traditional English language classroom in an EFL context. The aim of the current study was to carry out a subtle analysis concerning the design of this online learning program in relation to Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) and its implication to e-learning. The study adopted the deductive method of content analysis. The themes have been shaped based on the teaching contents of 10 Minute School. The findings suggested that the approach undertaken by 10 Minute School for its online teaching and learning was instrumental to students’ quick learning.Student Agency, Peer Authority and Participatory Learning

- 3. How can online learning options fill instructional gaps? Each student is different and therefore have different strengths and weaknesses. It is very difficult to meet those needs when teachers have up to thirty students in one room. Online learning can individualize for students individual needs.
- 4. How can online learning options support meaningful learning? Ability to link quickly and easily to internet Information online is more up to date than textbooks Quality and quantity of information far exceeds textbooks Students must participate vs. traditional classroom where students may or may not participate Ability to communicate with students and teacher at your fingertips Ability to develop discourse with students and teachers. more shy students may be less likely to communicate when a whole class verbal discussion
- 5. How can online learning options support authentic student learning? Topics when web based are more up to date. Topics when web based are more in touch with a student’s life For example CT Department of Education Science Standard 6.4 “Water moving across and through earth materials carries with it the products of human activities” (CSDE: Science) This unit is discussed in terms of Long Island Sound : “C11. Explain how human activity may impact water resources in Connecticut, such as ponds, rivers and the Long Island Sound ecosystem” (CSDE: Science). The Long Island Sound is the body of water that students in CT are most familiar with and therefore is most authentic for students.

Pros of online learning options “Many learning opportunities are offered in a self paced learning environment”(Olsen, Donaldson, & Hudson, 2010) “The online learning environment offers early childhood educators an opportunity to create a community where they can share ideas and exchange information(Donohue, Fox, & Torrence, 2007)” (Olsen, Donaldson, & Hudson, 2010) Online learning options meet the strengths and weaknesses of an individual learner. Online learning options are multimodal and therefore more likely to tap into a students learning style and or multiple intelligence.
